New Zealand A is set to make its debut appearance in Australia’s NT Top End T20 Series, with the tournament running from August 20 to 30 in Darwin. The white-ball tour marks a fresh opportunity for the Kiwis to test themselves in a competitive domestic Australian setup.

Once the T20 leg wraps up, New Zealand A’s 50-over unit will stay on for three additional one-day fixtures, taking on South Australia, Tasmania and Nepal. The travelling party is scheduled to leave home shores on August 16, with the campaign officially kicking off on August 22.

Tournament Format and Squad Departure

The Top End T20 Series brings together nine competing sides, all battling through six group-stage fixtures before the finals decide the champion. New Zealand Cricket’s involvement in this edition gives emerging talent a chance to sharpen their skills against quality opposition outside the usual international calendar.

NZC has confirmed a 13-player group for the tour, including Kristian Clarke, Matthew Fisher, Dean Foxcroft, Mitchell Hay, Jayden Lennox, Ben Lister, Adithya Ashok, Josh Clarkson, Muhammad Abbas, Tim Robinson, Katene Clarke, Bevon Jacobs and Rhys Mariu.

Why New Zealand A Is Heading to Australia

Pete Sanford, NZC’s Head of High Performance Development, explained the thinking behind sending the squad Down Under. Speaking to Cricinfo, he described the Top End tournament as a valuable stepping stone for players positioned further along in the national pathway.

According to Sanford, the series gives New Zealand’s rising cricketers exposure to elite-standard T20 cricket within a proper tournament framework, which in turn feeds into the country’s broader planning for major events. He added that fielding such a well-rounded squad reflects the strength currently running through New Zealand’s cricketing depth.

Squad Members with Recent International Experience

A number of the selected players were part of New Zealand’s recent success in the Caribbean, where the side clinched a five-match ODI series against West Indies last month. Kristian Clarke, Matt Fisher, Dean Foxcroft, Mitch Hay, Jayden Lennox and Ben Lister all featured prominently in that winning tour.

Rhys Mariu, who earned his international cap in 2025, has also been included for the 50-over leg in Australia. He has already notched an ODI half-century since making his debut, adding further experience to the touring group.
